Working Principle
The pin mill is categorized as a disc mill that achieves particle size reduction due to impact of the material in a mesh of pins. The pins are mounted on discs, one of which is stationary and other is rotating. The material gets broken down due to high-speed impact with these pins. The pin-pin clearance is designed as per the fineness required. A sieve is mounted on the periphery, through which the material passes post the grinding. The output fineness can be controlled by adjusting the fineness of the sieve and the speed of the rotor.
Application
A pin mill is one of the most commonly used impact mills for grinding bulk solid materials to medium fineness. The mill can accept feed materials with a particle size ranging from 20 microns to 0.5 in. and a Mohs hardness of 4, reducing particles down to as small as 10 microns, depending on the mill type and feed size.
